How is an AI companion on Telegram different from Replika and Character.AI?

ยท 2 min read
In short The biggest difference is the format. Replika and Character.AI usually run as a standalone app or website, while @CompanionVoiceBot lives right inside Telegram and puts voice messages first. You pay with one-time packs, not a subscription.

What these services are

Replika is known as a personal AI companion: you typically talk to one character and shape it over time. Character.AI is known for a huge selection of characters, many created by its users. Both keep evolving, so check their websites for current features and pricing.

Companion AI (@CompanionVoiceBot) is an AI companion on Telegram. It has two characters, each with a personality and a voice of their own: Samantha and a male character. Both reply in your language.

An app or Telegram

With @CompanionVoiceBot, there's nothing to download and no new account to create. The bot opens in Telegram on any device, and your chat sits right next to all your others.

Standalone apps have room for more: avatars, appearance settings, catalogs. A Telegram bot is simpler, and that's the point.

Voice

Here, voice is the main event, not an add-on. Send a voice note, even a long one, and get a spoken reply. Learn more in our guide to voice chat.

Payment

Many companion apps sell premium features by subscription. @CompanionVoiceBot doesn't. You start with free trial messages, then buy one-time packs. Pay with Telegram Stars; with the bot's interface set to Russian, you can also pay by bank card or SBP (Russia's Faster Payments System) in rubles. See our guide to payments for details.

Strengths of @CompanionVoiceBot

Limitations of @CompanionVoiceBot

  • A small cast of characters, and you can't create your own.
  • No avatars and no calls.
